3. Shanghai San & Hosp. (Hami Rd.) 1917
Dr. & Mrs. H C Landis
The Shanghai Adventist Sanitarium and Hospital was first housed at the Red Cross hospital in 1917, headed by Dr. H C Landis. When the rental contract was up in 1921, they moved to a place on Nanjing Rd.
It was too crowded so plans were formulated to build a hospital. Dr. Miller, having been away from China for 17 long years, returned to Shanghai in 1925. By 1928, the hospital was opened.
Dr. Henry Miller
The Shanghai hospital was the best-equipped, best staffed and best run SDA hospital in China. It trained many doctors, nurses, and technicians. Many nursing school graduates became directors of nurses in other hospitals.
