Samuel Lilley Frost was born in 1884. After completing college education, he married Ella Knokey in 1910. They served the Seventh-day Adventist church at various capacities in North America for several years. In 1916, they traveled to China by ship and served the Chinese youth as missionaries. While in China, he assumed many positions. He served as the secretary for the Education and the Youth departments in the Central China Mission. In 1917, he made a detailed report to the Asiatic Division with its headquarters located in Shanghai, China, summarizing the educational work in the division since the founding of the first school in Canton, the Bethel Schools for Boys and for Girls. In this report, he stated the financial situation at various Adventist schools including tuition income, expenses, as well as offerings donated to them. In 1942, his report showed that within China there were 79 schools operated by the denomination. The total number of teachers was 116, and total enrollment was 1,930. He thanked God for His blessing upon the ministry of His church to the field. His last position in China was that of the Division Secretary and he served with distinction.
